The Art of Making Art

The Art of Making Art…what is art? Well, it depends on who you ask. It generally however, involves the collective culmination of both creative and imaginative ideas. From scribble art to inverted toilets, from duck taped bananas to monster eyes, to pieces that seem to have no meaning at all; the range of art is a vast expanse of individual creative expression. Kind of like beauty, art is in the eye of the beholder. You can also say that it is in the eye of both the creator and the admirer. This is a not a discussion on art for the art worlds sake, but rather art for the sake of making art. There is an inherent difference between creating art and selling art.

Everyone has there opinion of what is or isn’t constituted as art, but who’s to really say? There are no rules in art. Only what we choose to like or don’t. What is art to me may not be art to you, and that’s okay. Art is about creative freedom and individualism. We must ask ourselves, who determines what art is? Is it the maker or the viewer? Is art determined by the value placed on it or lack there of? I think not. A piece of art that sells for millions of dollars is not necessarily greater than a piece of art that sells for twenty dollars. Monetary value can not be the determining factor. Neither can popularity. Art is a creative endeavor that is birthed from a thought, a dream, an idea and transformed into a tangible piece of creative expression. That’s it. No more, no less.

“My art is not dependent on your understanding of it. I create art because I am in love with it.”
